The making of Pleasuredome 3 – part two

Final result

In part one of 'The making of Pleausuredome 3' I have informed you about the first steps I took in the creation of a new permanent track. In this second and last part of the story I will show you the final result.

Re-design

After hours of racing I decided to change a few sections of the original design. It is very important to run as many laps as possible on a new track. It takes quite long before you know what you like and dislike about your design. On the picture of the new layout you notice that the curves at the end of the straight are changed. I think the new design is a bit more exiting than the old one.

Initially I planned to use the racing curve crossovers of the Scalextric Sport set. After testing them I concluded that these crossovers give too much problems while racing with friends. The lengths of both lanes are different as a result of this decision.

For the design of the circuit I have used the special tool of Scalextric's Race Management System.

Scenery

After finishing the design of the track layout it was about time to create the landscape. The track is sunk in the table. The scenery model buildings, grandstands, trees and little figures, which were all used on my previous tracks, got a new spot at the track. The track lights of Art-Kit create the special atmosphere of night racing.

As a result of the design there is a difference in level. A long wooden bridge is built to crossover some other sections of the circuit.

Lap-Counter

I intended to use the lap-counting software of Scalextric. After a while I concluded that RMS is not reliable enough for serious racing. RMS does not register all models. I got an advise to step over to the products of DS-Racing. You can read more of DS-Racing on this site.

Power and Control

For the power supply I use two standard Scalextric adapters (wall-units) which are connected to the Sport powerbase. For the length of this track you do not need a more sophisticated power supply. It is sufficient to connect track power booster cables. The orange Economy (45 Ohm) controllers of Parma are used to control the cars.
