At the time the cars of Märklin were very expensive. The models were slower than the cars of the competitors.
Although Märklin was in the fortunate position to have an extensive dealership in Europe, Märklin was not able in reaching the sales level of the other brands. Like Fleischmann, the other German model railway company, Märklin had to cease the production of Sprint at the beginning of the eighties.
