Spain is the home of modern model car racing. Many (new) manufacturers, such as Fly, Proteus and Ninco, are based in and around Barcelona. In Spain there is a market for magazines about our hobby due to the big number of slot racing enthusiasts in that country.

Source of information

Spain is an important source of information about new slot models and techniques. Besides Guia Slot Racing (GSR) you can find two other important model car racing magazines. Miniauto is a colorful monthly about die-cast models and slot car racing and Masslot (also a monthly) is totally devoted to slot racing.

GSR

The first issue (number zero) was published in 1995 at the beginning of the revival of slot racing. The first thirty issues of the square sized magazine were written in the Spanish language. After the growth of tabletop racing the publisher of Guia Slot Racing decided to change the looks and the language of the magazine. Since December 2002 Guia Slot Racing is bilingual, Spanish and English. The square format has been changed for commercial reasons to the standard magazine size.

Guia Slot Racing

The distribution of the old Guia Slot Racing was limited. The magazine was only available in Spain. The renewed magazine is available in many countries in Europe. Also international slot car dealers offer the magazine for their customers.
If you decide to take a subscription (six issues a year) you get a special "GSR" model. The Guia Slot Racing special models have proved to be collectors items.

Content

The layout of the magazine is conveniently arranged despite the two languages. Every page is divided into two columns. In the left column you find the Spanish language and in the right column the translation in English. The magazine contains excellent color photographs.
In the magazine you can find the latest news and a few test reports about new models. These in-depth articles are very valuable for race enthusiasts. As club racing is extremely popular in Spain you can find many articles about tuning of cars in the magazine. GSR offers many articles about tuning devices and super controllers.

Interesting magazine

Guia Slot Racing is an interesting magazine for both beginners and advanced slot car enthusiasts. The publisher took a wise decision to translate the articles into English. Although Spanish is an international language, not many people do understand Spanish in Europe. As we were missing an English magazine about slot racing in Europe it is to be expected that the International version of Guia Slot Racing will be a success.
