Proteus

Jan Willem van Capelleveen It seems to be that the Spanish manufacturer Model Slot Proteus is out of business. The website of Proteus (www.slotproteus.es) is out of order and our e-mails are not replied.

The first model of Proteus

The first model of Proteus was presented in 2001. The slot car scene was surprised by the choice of the car, the concept car Heuliez Pregunta. Model Slot Proteus, based in Alicante, planned to produce two exclusive models a year. Only one decoration per model should be fabricated in a limited number of 5.000 units per model. It was obvious that Proteus could not follow this business plan. Five race models of the Pregunta were produced, including a model with the livery of the football-club Barcelona, after the release of the original model without driver-figure.
The second model arrived in the shops eighteen months after the release of the Proteus. The expectations of the customers were high, but the Lamborghini Murcielago could satisfy the enthusiasts. Proteus has not been very productive. Only two different models were made in a period of four years.

Company has a juridical problem

A Spanish source of SlotcarAcademy.com reported that the company has a juridical problem with Spanish Scalextric. IBB Autoracing, the former Spanish distributor of Proteus, informed SlotcarAcademy.com that Model Slot Proteus is not longer producing cars at the moment.

Proteus is out of business

Sadly we conclude that Proteus is out of business. Hopefully the company is able to make a new start, because Proteus created two fine slot cars and we look forward to more interesting models.
