Scalextric Sport World
Scalextric Sport Digital
Scalextric seems to be very proud about there self clamed success of Scalextric Sport Digital. In there report about the figures of last year they report the following. "The launch of the Scalextric Sport Digital System has been extremely successful. This major advance in technology has been further developed to offer digital control racing across a wider range of price points, thus bringing significantly enhanced play-value into the mass market for slot racing." I am happy for the hobby and the company that Scalextric Sport Digital is popular. But what about Scalextric Sport World?
Very interesting
I have received Sport World after winning a contest on Slot Forum. Scalextric Sport World is very interesting; most functions work as described and make a worthy successor to RMS. The integrated track design program is good. The virtual test drive feature gives a new perspective on your proposed track, as somebody described it on Slotforum. The integrated race management and control functions are easy to understand (after reading the Pdf-file of 395 pages!).
System fails
I am trying to get it working for days but I failed. Whatever I do, the system fails to read the slotcars when they cross the start/finish line at high speed. Scalextric Sport World is only able to register the models if you slow down. Although some users do not find any difficulties, many users have expressed their problems through the Internet. The key to success for a timing device is reliable registration.
Power packs
Scalextric Sport World is not distributed at the mainland in Europe at this moment (June 2006). Scalextric claims that it finds difficulties with finding the right power packs. This must be an excuse. I am certain that the failing registration of cars is the main problem. As long as Scalextric do not find a proper solution it cannot distribute the system worldwide.
