Ninco Rally The Subaru and Citroen Saxo

Rallying fastest growing motor sport

Rallying is the fastest growing motor sport in the world. The rally sport is in some countries, like Spain, bigger than Formula 1, Nascar, DTM or Le Mans series. On the 1/32-scale circuits around the world the love for these kinds of slot cars is growing as well. In 2002 Ninco has released two beautiful rally cars, the Citroen Saxo and the Subaru WRC.

Subaru

Many manufacturers have already released the Subaru of the World Rally Championship. Ninco is the last company that brought this model on the market. For Ninco lovers it was worthwhile waiting for this slot car, because Ninco made a big step in detailing. The yellow special Catalunya Costa Brava Subaru was the first version of this model. A month after the release of this special model, Ninco announced the famous blue Subaru WRC.

Very well tampo printed

The yellow Subaru is almost an inverse of the blue Subaru. Both versions are very well tampo printed. The body shows interesting details like an antenna on the roof, a detailed grill, nice headlights and open hood scoops. In the interior you find two drivers, a roll cage, a spare tire in the back, a fire extinguisher and the co-driver is holding pace notes.

4-wheel-drive slot car

The Subaru is a 4-wheel-drive slot car. The power to the front wheels is accomplished with a rubber band pulley system driven from the rear axle. This system proved already to be very reliable. The Subaru is powered by an inline NC2 motor.

Citroen Saxo

The Citroen Saxo is not the most popular car in the rally world. The car is participating in the Junior WRC. I have to compliment Ninco to show the guts to release this very nice rally car. You can compare this car to the Renault Clio (the first model of Ninco), the Renault Megane or the Peugeot 306, all powered by an NC1 motor, but the Saxo has more power as a result of the NC2 motor.
The Saxo shows the same level of detail on exterior and interior as the Subaru.

Cornering is big fun

Cornering with this small slot car is big fun. This car brakes very good. The button magnet might be a little bit too strong for such a small car, but that makes it possible to enter the hairpins with high speed. Although acceleration is great with the NC2 motor, I have tried the Stinger motor. With the Stinger the car was a bit quicker, but on a small home track you will not be able to get full use of its power.

Color rims of the Saxo

The white color rims of the Saxo do not look as beautiful as the rims of the Subaru. The blue street model of Saxo has eye-catching rims. Ninco should have put these kinds of rims on the rally Saxo.

Conclusion

All the rally lovers among slot racers should try these models. The Subaru and Citroen Saxo are probably the best cars that Ninco produced in 2002.
