Until now the McLaren Mercedes MP4-16 and Williams F1 BMW FW23 are the most beautiful Formula-1 models ever made. Scalextric knocked down the competitors.

Scalextric Sport Special Edition models

The Scalextric Sport Special Edition models of the McLaren and Williams Formula-One cars are presented in a blue cardboard box. This edition is very interesting for collectors, because only five thousand cars will be manufactured and each box is numbered.

Down-force

Inside the box you will find two extra guides with braids and a disc magnet. Racers who like to add more magnetic down-force will like this gesture of Scalextric. On a small instruction sheet it is showed how to add the magnet. Put the disc magnet, which is not very strong, in the bracket pocket behind the front wheels for extra down-force. Probably you do not need the extra magnet. A powerful bar magnet, in the rear of the car, gives enough down-force.

Steering wheels

The front axle is solid with no steering feature as seen on the Formula-1 models of Ninco and SCX. Steering wheels look great, but most people prefer a solid axle for racing.

Level of finish and detail

The level of finish and detail shows a new standard in model car racing. The tampo printing of the car is superb. Both cars have a full driver figure in the cockpit. The delicate mirrors are printed with names of the sponsors. Both cars have a different kind of tire. Mika has chosen for normal race tires but Pablo expects rain.

Handling

The handling is great and the inline motor is very powerful. On the track these Formula-One cars are record breakers. At many home tracks of model car racers around the world the Mercedes or Williams has broken the lap record. The Scalextric Sport Formula-One cars are as fast as the models of Fly, which are known for their downforce, but the Sport models run quite and smooth.
The Formula-1 models are also available in a regular version.
