After years of marketing research the slot car companies Scalextric and Carrera are developing special series for the American market. The new generation of muscle cars was shipped to the United States by the end of 2001. A few years before Scalextric swept the American market with the Nascars.
Hornby Hobbies
Hornby Hobbies, the manufacturer of Scalextric, has to pay high markings and licensing fees. Due to contractual agreement the Nascars and sets may be not available in all the countries around the world. In the brochures and flyers of Scalextric it is mentioned in which countries the products are available.
Forty years of experience
Forty years of experience in the world of slot car racing has resulted in the Nascar series. Scalextric shows with these models that they understand the American consumers. But there are many consumers outside the United States, were the Winston Cup is not very popular, who also collect the Nascar series.
Offered in a plastic case
The cars are offered in a plastic case with a cardboard wrapper. The wrapper matches the paint scheme of the car. The signature of the driver and general information of the team is printed at the back for the wrapper.
Our opinion
The real Winston Cup cars are very colorful. The heavily sponsored models require high quality tampo printing. Scalextric has done a perfect paint job.
The magnet is very powerful. The magnet is positioned in the older Nascar models, as shown in the pictures, between the wheel suspension and the motor. On the new models the magnet is located before the motor and can be placed in three different positions.
Four-lane speedway
Although the cars are long it is possible to race on a Grand-Prix circuit with sharp curves. But these models deserve their own Nascar Speedway. Scalextric offers three sets. The "standard" Speedway circuit can be combined with a "Super" set into a four-lane speedway.
Very suitable for kids
The Nascars of Scalextric are very suitable for kids, because these cars are almost unbreakable. You do not have to fear that your kid will break a mirror or back wing if it is playing with a Nascar.
