The oldest magazine about slot car racing is Scale Auto Racing News. The first issue of the magazine is published in 1979. John Ford is the founder and editor of SARN.

Words of the editor

John Ford wrote in one of his online publications the following about Scale Auto Racing News: "I had big aspirations back in 1979 when I started publishing SARN, the slot car magazine for the new era of slot racing. I had dreams of selling thousands of magazines and single handedly bring the sport of slot racing back to the prominent place it deserved. I was still young, and did not realise that it would take so long. When I began my research for the publishing of a magazine back in 1978, I could only find thirty-eight raceways to send the first copies to."

SARN

The quality of the magazine has become better over the years. Ford: "Today it is printed on glossy paper with full color on half the pages. Over five thousand copies are printed and distribution is world-wide. My dream of seeing slot car racing regain it's popularity is now a reality but it wasn't just me that did it. It was a struggle of more than twenty-five years and the efforts of many die-hards like myself to bring the hobby / sport of slot car racing back to the public." The magazine is mainly focused on the club-scene in the United States but publishes also articles about 1/32-scale slot cars.

Ford publishing

John Ford runs together with his wife Linda the Ford publishing company. John Ford printed over the years many booklets about slot car racing. The Slot Car Dictionary is one of the highlights.
