Super tuned racing model
The Italian manufacturer Slot.it is best known for the super racing axles, gears, tires and motors. Slot.it wisely decided to enter the market with a super tuned racing model. The Audi R8C model is one of the fastest models you can get.
The original car
The history of the Audi R8C is a short story. Tony Southgate designed the very beautiful racecar. The Audi R8C made its first and only race appearance at Le Mans in 1999. Theys, Johansson and Ortelli drove the number 9 car. The number 10 car was steered by Weaver, Wallace and McCarthy. Both cars were retired during the race due to gearbox problems.
The replica
The Audi attracted the attention of the designers of Slot.it. They immediately requested Audi to make the original car CAD files available.
Slot.it released six different liveries, which show the development of the car during a season. The model looks to be designed for large club tracks. The (inline) motor is very quick, but at the national slot car races in
Spain the contenders used Ninco NC3 X-trem motors, because they have proved to be very reliable.
Detailed parts are available separately
All the detailed parts are available separately. The antennas, wiper, the flexible black rear-wing and mirrors are removable.
For a car that only made its performance at Le Mans (24 hours racing circuit) it is a pity that the car does not have working headlights.
Handling
On a Ninco track the model shows a decent grip, but on a
Scalextric Sport track the car slides too much. The magnet is positioned in the middle of the chassis and there are no alternate magnet mounting points. On the Sport track I use tires with profile.
The model runs extremely low on the track. On a hilly layout this model will hit the track with the chassis. As said, the Audi is a real racecar that is designed for very fast and large tracks.
Conclusion
The Audi R8C is the fastest car that has been released in 2002. For those people who race in a club this is probably the car they have waited for.
