Tabletop model car racing
New companies enter the market nowadays thanks to the popularity of tabletop model car racing. Spirit is a new manufacturer from Spain. The first model of Spirit, a Lola B2K/10, shows many details.
Improved show-box
The model is presented in an improved show-box that is known from the Proteus Pregunta. It sometimes happens that axles become crooked during transportation, but that will not happen with the new box, because the wheels are not resting on the undercarriage of the box.
Body
Jon Field and Oliver Gavin in the Elkhart Lake 2000 race drove the original Lola number 37 car. Spirit has chosen to enter the market with this black version of the Lola B2K/10. Just a few sponsors decorate the body.
A full figure-driver with a decorated helmet is sitting behind the colorful dashboard. A fire extinguisher is positioned next to the driver's seat. The mirrors are made from flexible plastic. A few metal (looking) parts are fixed on the body.
Chassis
The chassis is fixed to the body with four long screws. The front axle is pushed down with two "shock absorbers" of metal. The advantage of this new feature has not yet been proven.
The magnet bar is positioned between the motor and the rear axle. The plastic gear is colored red.
Motor
The Mabuchi type motor is positioned in-line. The crown gear is made of plastic. Due to the lack of power of the original motor I decided to change it. I have chosen for the Ninco Stinger, although it does not fit perfectly in the motor mount. The NC4 motor gives maybe too much power, but a racecar, and certainly a Lola, must have power to impress.
Conclusion
I applaud for the improved show-box, the perfect paintjob, the rear axle, the tires and the detailing. The handling of the car is on a decent level, but due to the lack of acceleration you do not get excited.
