Vanquish MG creates interesting slot cars
Vanquish MG creates very interesting slot cars. The McLaren that was driven by Oscar Kovaleski in Mosport 1971 is decorated with a racetrack. The model is a real eye-catcher but unfortunately the suspension of this make does not work perfectly.
Auto World
Auto World was a mail order Company in the United States. Oscar Koveleski and Bob "Smitty" Smith founded the Company in 1958. Mike Blates was the editor of the catalogues. The publications of Auto World used to be a catalogue, but because of the many interesting articles it was a respectable source of information. Besides slot cars the Company sold all kind of automotive related hobby products. Oscar Koveleski wrote many "how-to" articles in this publication.
The catalogue (fourty editions, #1 to #41, #13 was skipped) was published from 1958 to 1991. Auto World folded in 1999. Oscar Koveleski is now president of the Historic Can Am Assn.
Oscar Koveleski
Oscar Koveleski drove several cars in Can Am races. One model is interesting for slot car enthusiasts. Auto World was the striking sponsor of McLaren. The car was decorated with a slot car track. The Spanish manufacturer Vanquish MG offers the McLaren since 2003.
Adams & Sons
Vanquish MG is not the first company that arrived at the scene with a suspension design. The Californian Company Adams & Sons created in the sixties a chassis with active independent suspension on all four wheels for a 1/24-scale model. Quad mark 1 was the name of the product. On the track the four wheels kept on the track all of the time. The chassis with the parts was offered as a kit.
On the track
The test drive at my Ninco track became a total disaster. Just after five minutes of racing the engine got extremely hot. Two minutes later the car died because of a suspension failure. Before this disaster I tested the Lola T-260. In the beginning I was very enthusiastic about this model, but also the Lola got a broken suspension during a race session. It seems to be that the models of VMG are not designed for a rough track surface. I sadly have to conclude that the models of Vanquish belong to the shelves and not on the track.
